Welcome to the home of Baw Baw Fly Fisher!

Owner and operator Shane Wakker, got his first fly rod at the ripe old age of 10 years old. He went on to try his luck here and there with the “long wand” as well as continuing to use conventional gear over his younger years. It was in his early 20s that Shane began solely using fly when fishing and to this day at the age of 39 he has continued on that path.

Hailing from West Gippsland in Victoria, Shane is surrounded by pristine trout water across the Baw Baw Ranges, which is a fantastic backyard to fish in that Shane knows like the back of his hand.

Also within the area is Blue Rock Dam, which is known for its very healthy population of Aussie Bass. Especially during the summer months you will find Shane regularly spending a late afternoon targeting top water bass from his kayak.

Shane also ventures regularly to other areas such as Far East Gippsland, South Gippsland and Southern NSW chasing some of his favourite estuary species, Estuary Perch, Bream and the Aussie table favourite, flathead.

Another highlight for Shane are his trips to Tasmania’s central highlands fishing across the endless number of lagoons and lakes chasing stunning Tasmanian Brown Trout.

Shane’s trout flies have been used with consistent success across Victoria, Tasmania and NSW, on water ranging from tiny alpine creeks to larger rivers and still water. As well as trout flies, Shane also ties patterns to chase salt water species and fresh water predator species such as bass. These flies are also available through the store.
